I’m not silly enough to believe that the Black Labrador pub accurately portrays the British pub experience here in Houston. Brit classics here seem mediocre at best and hearty fare plus the dark, close atmosphere just doesn’t work as well when it’s 90 degrees out.
There is, however, one thing I find immensely enjoyable about the Black Lab, and that is their patio. The restaurant is located in a beautiful Montrose center along with Kraftsmen baking and the Montrose library. The building is red brick covered in ivy and shaded by trees all around. There’s even a giant (people sized) chess set to play with. It’s a patio meant to be savored, with plenty of Bloody Marys and friends. And if there’s one thing Houston might do better than England, it’s sunny patio days.
